Mengfen Xia is a Professor of Physics at Peking University, and Professor of the State Key Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics
within the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Science.
He is a visiting scientist of QUAKES as part of the International Visitors Program of the APEC Cooperation for Earthquake
Simulation sponsored by the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Australian Research Council (ARC). He is conducting collaborative research to study of statistical features of earthquake rupture and the transition from the stable to catastrophic regime, multi-scale effects, trans-scale sensitivity, and the characteristics of critical state and precursors of rupture. The project brings together cellular automata and lattice solid numerical models developed at QUAKES, and statistical physics methods for rupture developed at Peking University and the Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics.
